Despite Losing Money, Spotify Will Not Sell
AS Spotify increases its revenue while hemorrhaging money, CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek said at a conference in Stockholm last Thursday that he is in no way considering selling the company, even following-up his statement with, “My biggest advice for entrepreneurs is don’t ever sell.” Spotify has recently taken a multi-pronged initiative in an effort to rectify the company’s financial losses, including hiring Troy Carter (former manager of Lady Gaga) to strengthen relationships among the company, songwriters, and musicians and offering a family plan for Premium subscribers where you can add up to 4 accounts for $14.99/month. Both of these initiatives are in the infantile stages, so for now, we can only sit back, enjoy the tunes, and find three friends to go in on the super cheap family plan.
Tonys Award More Black Actors Last Sunday Than Last 9 Oscars Combined
Sunday night was the 70th annual Tony Awards. As expected, the widely ubiquitous Hamilton dominated the evening, winning 11 of the 16 categories the musical was nominated for. The Color Purple also took home the award for lead actress, making it a night where the Tonys awarded more black performers than the last nine years of the Oscars combined. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda gave a deeply sincere speech that included an original sonnet composed for the victims of the Orlando shooting.
