Psychedelic Nintendo Punk

The Austin Music Minute is more than happy to give shout-outs to fellow music supporters, and this week, it’s for my friend and colleague Johnny Goudie and his podcast, How Did I Get Here? The latest episode features a brief interview with today’s AMM featured artist, Ty Richards, and his album release show happening tomorrow night at Mosaic Sound Collective.

Three new singles were recently released from the wickedly groove-heavy, video game-esque Welcome to Flat Earth: “Merry-Go-Round” (featured on today’s AMM), “Red Pill” (which pill would you take, though?), and “Killjoy” (wait…a song about my ex?). And during Goudie’s chat about the new tunes, Richards very gleefully described the new material as “psychedelic Nintendo punk.”

Now, imagine iced tea nearly shooting out of your AMM’s host’s nose, followed by more laughter after Goudie offered up “Nintendo metal artist.” The stuff geek dreams are made of…

So, you have a date with Richards and his band tomorrow night at Mosaic Sound Collective, located at 6400 FM 969; get on E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and head toward Ed Bluestein Blvd. (include 78724 in your search). The event features a live painting by five artists of The Blue Dozen Collective, and performances by special guests James Cooke, and The Cuckoos. Things get started at 8 p.m. Recommended.
