It’s been nearly 50 years since car problems stranded Marcia Ball in Austin on her way from her home in Louisiana to San Francisco. It’s safe to say that the Austin music scene hasn’t been the same since. Since that fateful breakdown, Marcia Ball has injected the city with her distinctive brand of New Orleans soul and gritty Gulf Coast barrelhouse blues, first with her band Freda and the Firedogs and then as a solo artist. A solo career that earned Ball several Grammy nominations, countless awards, and most recently the title of the 2018 State Musician of Texas. Marcia Ball brings all those years of experience to bear on her latest album, Shine Bright, produced by Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin and released via Alligator Records. She brought her band to Studio 1A before a record release show at Waterloo Records in Austin.
