Yes, Charley Crockett is indeed related to the King of the Wild Frontier, but he has made a name for himself with his Americana soul music. This Texas native hails from The Rio Grande Valley and, after some soul searching elsewhere in the United States, has come on back home to the Lone Star State and settled in Austin. Crockett remains busy in the studio and on the tour bus. He released not one but two albums last year, Lonesome As a Shadow and a cover album Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza. He played 200-plus shows in 2018 and will be playing Any Baby Can’s 40th Anniversary Benefit Concert at Moody Theater w/ Shinyribs May 3rd at ACL Live.
Crockett spoke with KUTX’s Elizabeth McQueen about his Texas roots and his upcoming debut at the Grand Ole Opry June 25th and gave our concert club members a taste of his troubadour sound.
