BEST SONGS EVER… THIS WEEK 05.03.19

KUTX host Art Levy spills the beans on the BEST SONGS EVER! At least for this week.

Fontaines D.C. – “Boys in the Better Land”

First up, a group out of Dublin called Fontaines D.C. They were one of the most-hyped bands at SXSW, and I managed to catch them…for about three songs before the bass amp blew up because they were playing so loud. So yeah, they’re that kind of punk band, but with a poetic sensibility on top of all the chaos. Check out “Boys in the Better Land.”

Hayes Carll – “None’ya”

Next, new music from Austin’s Hayes Carll. He has that rare ability of writing songs that can be really funny and bittersweet at the same time, and “None’ya” feels like a short story in song form.

Nilüfer Yanya – “In Your Head”

Finally, a song from the British artist Nilüfer Yanya. She comes from a family of artists: she created her debut album Miss Universe in her uncle’s studio, and her sister directs her music videos. “In Your Head” is all about self-doubt–though you’d never guess it from the music. She sounds like she’s ready to conquer the world.
