January 6, 1924 – Bluegrass music genius Earl Scruggs was born in Cleveland County, NC. He not only gave us the sublime “Ballad of Jed Clampett” and “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”, he perfected and popularized a 3-finger banjo-picking style later dubbed “Scruggs style”.
