The Austin Music Minute is supported by Howler Brothers, an Austin-based designer of creative outdoor apparel since 2011, and by Planet K, Austin’s local hemp emporium since 1990.
From its extensive roots in Columbia’s Caribbean coast, to the countless subgenres branching from it, cumbia continues to inspire musicians and music lovers across borders. Celebrating this expansive cultural influence is Cumbiadélica Festival, spotlighting the enormous spectrum of cumbia styles with multiple bands, DJs, cumbia dance lessons, plus ofrendas de la comunidad, local vendors and artisans, and a cumbia drumming workshop.
The family-friendly Cumbiadélica Festival kicks off at 2 p.m. today at 29th Street Ballroom. Y las bandas son excepcionales: Los Desechos (“Sonámbulo” from Cumbias Levantamuertos is featured on today’s AMM), Los Gran Reyes, Quimikoz Del Son, Fuego Santo, Flor De La Frontera, Grupo Salvaje, Los Gatos 512 and more.
Don’t spend the entire time sitting. Es una fiesta de baile. Rain or shine, it’s on.
