14th Street Beat

Who: It wasn’t just the rock ‘n’ roll. Granted, that’s the most important thing, the game-changer, but there’s no denying that the hair, the clothes, the make-up – all of it was part of a pivotal time in the ongoing evolution of modern music. The New York Dolls put themselves out there, no apologies, one of the first bands in the early punk rock scene in NYC. One of the founding members was guitarist Sylvain Sylvain, and he stayed on, along with David Johansen, until the band’s demise in 1977. But Sylvain wasn’t about to hang up his guitar after that. He went on to make a few other bands and made a name for himself with a solo career.

What: Any Dolls fans in ATX are in for a treat this evening. Sylvain Sylvain is in town for a show, and it’s gonna be a big one.

When and where: It’s all going down tonight at Hotel Vegas, 1502 E. 6th St. Pleasers, Crocodile Tears, Savage Pinks, and Jamey Simms are all on the bill. Make plans to arrive early. It’s so worth it. Recommended.
