It was a decision not made lightly. However, even before taking the big step of starting a career in music, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols knew he wanted to honor the music and stories of the past by bringing them into the future. Original blues music – American music – tells the stories of the Black experience. On his self-titled LP, Nichols keeps those stories alive, and in doing so, breathes new life into them by sharing his own experiences as a Black man.
“Part of my intent, making myself more comfortable with this release, is putting more Black stories into the genres of folk and blues,” Nichols explains. “Listening to this record, I want more Black people to hear themselves in this music that is truly theirs.”
Buffalo Nichols performs tonight, Wednesday March 30, at Stateside at The Paramount. Special guest Little Mazarn, featuring Lindsey Verrill and Jeff Johnston, opens the show.
*As of this writing, tonight’s show is sold out, but Paramount kindly asks that you check their website to see if additional seats become available.
