Chill Night

The Austin Music Minute puts the spotlight on a few outstanding songwriters sharing a bill tonight at Beerland, 711 1/2 Red River, for a decidedly laid-back evening at an awesome venue known more for its punk and rock shows raging at higher decibels. But not a problem. Though this show will be a chill one, the intensity of each of these local musicians will completely mesmerize their audience.

-Self-taught multi-instrumentalist and experimental roots artist Ralph White shatters the Americana mold with his evocative album, Tossing Pebbles on the Sleeping Beast, featuring guest performances by Thor Harris.

-Dark gothic-folk troubadour Benjamin Cissner (featured on today’s AMM) made a stunning debut this year with Birds In the Night, a haunted work swaying between pop and rock soundscapes – never settling on either, but richly incorporating both.

-Alt./psych-folk artist John Jack Joseph is refocusing his creative energies on reimagining some classic songs for a special project he’s working on, to follow up last summer’s excellent debut, the unsettlingly beautiful Electric Life.

No exaggeration. This one’s a must-see, following a happy hour performance by the simply dark and divine Izzy Cox at 7 p.m. Don’t miss any of it. Recommended.
