Feast of Funk

Coming at you from all directions. Some of the best and baddest in the scene are rolling out heavy doses of funk, soul and non-stop hip-hop at Funksgiving, the mega-show going down tonight at The North Door, 501 Brushy St. No exaggeration. This one’s tremendous:

-Don’t leave your dancing shoes at home, Manero. The mighty one-man funk band Henry + The Invisibles brings the badass boogie wonderland to keep the party pumped. Your humble Austin Music Minute host has been known to spin “You Made It” from the album Musaic as a personal theme song because…well…it’s smooth, baby.

-Education and inspiration are the motivation for this elevation. BOOM. Third Root is in the house, featuring MexicanStepGrandfather, Easy Lee (MoJoe), and DJ Chicken George unleashing the lyrical Libertad beast. So dope you’ll be enlightened.

-Speaking of DJ Chicken George, the globetrotting groove merchant of Jazztronica! will spin like mad for your listening and dancing pleasure.

-Houston is representin’. Six-piece pop/rock and soul outfit Soul Creatures will be an excellent start to the evening. Good times and classic vibes.

Doors open tonight at 8 p.m. Heads up: Chances are very good this show will sell out. Recommended.
