Today’s Love Austin Music Month spotlight shines on songwriter, jaw-droppingly talented guitarist and, to put it mildly, an Austin legend, Jackie Venson. No exaggeration. Legendary for not only being admired worldwide for her superior musicianship and the explosive energy she brings to live shows, but also for her endless activism and community support. Part of Venson’s long cred list is her phenomenal Austin City Limits debut in October 2020, leading a stellar five-piece band through music from her LP Vintage Machine, with singers Kate Priestly and Akina Adderley, joined by fellow rising star Tameca Jones to perform the holiest of Lone Star holies, Stevie Ray Vaughn‘s “Texas Flood,” and wearing a dress bearing the names of Black victims of police violence.
Why have you not seen Venson play live yet? What are you doing with your life?? See Venson at her next residency show at Antone’s tomorrow night, Saturday Jan. 13, featuring an opening set by yet another longtime AMM favorite, Trouble In the Streets. Doors at 7 p.m.
