Love Austin Music: Aaron Stephens

We’ve got hearts in our eyes. KUTX, the City of Austin Music and Entertainment Division and the Austin Music Foundation have designated February as Love Austin Music Month. And as part of the celebration, the AMM is featuring online performances by local artists. Case in point: An artist like songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Aaron Stephens knows that to describe something as “soulful” is to recognize something multi-dimensional, always evolving, not really tied to any one genre.

Born in Chicago and raised in McAllen, TX, Stephens listened to his parents’ Motown and Stax records, which opened the door to all kinds of music. He was writing his own songs and playing guitar by age 13.

The recent Austin Music Foundation alumnus made his official debut with the 2014 release Hard Times, Straight Lines, and continued his musical journey with various EP’s, singles, and his second full-length release Focus (2018).

Following Plum Creek Sessions (2020) and the singles “Same Table” and “Smoke Break,” Stephens celebrates the release of his new EP Head 2 the Sky with a livestream performance at 8 p.m. (Central) tonight, Thursday Feb. 4, on Purple Bee TV, including Purple Bee’s YouTube, Twitch and Facebook Live.
