Oh Snap!

Looking back, I recall that at first glance, OH SNAP! simply seemed to be a clever name for the local music festival/benefit sporting that moniker. However, there’s deeper meaning beneath the surface. It was a catch phrase that the late Sergio Machado was known for by friends and colleagues.

The OH SNAP! Fest was organized in memory of the talented musician and student originally from Mozambique, Africa, who graduated from Southwestern University in 2005. Machado’s vibrant personality had made quite an impact upon his peers, and he was known for bringing people together through music and his humor. After graduating, he returned to his hometown to work for a local IT company for about three years, and had gotten married during that time. Tragically, Machado’s life was cut short when a drunk driver hit his car.

Machado’s friends created the festival in his honor to help raise funds for the Sergio Machado Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid for international students who come to Texas to study.

The celebration continues at the fourth annual OH SNAP! Festival, today at 3 p.m. at the Historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. at Navasota. This line-up of spectacular local artists is phenom:  What Made Milwaukee Famous, Black Pistol Fire, Dana Falconberry, Whalers, Emily Wolfe, Lord Buffalo, Kalu James, The Larues, Clyde & Clem’s Whiskey Business, Hikes, and Space Crazies. Do not miss one second, and all for a wonderful cause. Recommended.
