One Thing

Full disclosure: Your humble Austin Music Minute host has been a longtime fan of The Fixx, especially after temporarily putting aside the better-known Reach the Beach (1983) to (re)discover their debut album, Shuttered Room (1982). “Stand or Fall” and fans’ call-and-echo favorite at live shows, “Red Skies,” were the two radio/MTV picks of the time, but many a dedicated Fixxture might point you toward the fiery “Lost Planes,” the trench-coated intrigue of “Cameras in Paris,” or the track that slowly crawls beneath your skin, invades your psyche, and morphs into your worst nightmare, “The Fool.” Behind that rich, dark poetic tapestry is the mind of vocalist Cy Curnin, who offers some of the most astute observations made of the bleaker sides of humanity – oftentimes, the more horrific sides.

The Fixx return to Austin for a show tomorrow night at 3Ten, 310 Willie Nelson Blvd., around the corner from ACL Live. And it’s a fantastic double bill featuring local dream-pop band She Sir, who recently paired the release of their new album Rival Island with a special re-release of their 2006 full-length debut Who Can’t Say Yes on vinyl.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the music starts at 8:30 p.m. The AMM recommends getting there early to see both bands. You’ll thank me later. Very recommended.
