This year’s stunning release Shadowbox reveals the more driven poetics of the D.C.-based rap artist – dark, existential, brilliant. Mavi dives further into inner turmoil to pull forth some of the most unsettling, revelatory imagery. The emotion pull of Mavi’s third LP gives the sensation of sinking or spinning out of control, a rapid descent depleting whatever strength he has left to tell his story.
