Really, it’s all dark. Life, love, the whole damn thing. Elsa Cross takes this important observation to heart and turns it into heart-piercing Americana/roots-rockin’ that unveils the inner turmoil behind outward badass. The Austin Music Minute must reiterate: These are tunes that would be right at home with any vibes that Johnny Cash, Nick Cave or Tom Waits puts out there.
It’s time to get your dose of ragged souls and night shadows. Elsa Cross performs tonight at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave., with The Painted Redstarts opening at 9:30 p.m., followed by Jon Dee Graham at 10:15 p.m. Cross takes the stage at the witching hour. Perfect. Recommended.
