Showing the Local Love

Who: When your Austin Music Minute host recently interviewed artist, musician and songwriter Lauren Bruno (Les Rav) about her documentary Rebirth on Arts In Context, she provided some insight into her program $3 Shows. It connects local artists with local non-profits to form a mutual support system. The shows Bruno organizes, for a mere $3 at the door, always feature an enormous amount of musical and artistic talent, all to raise awareness of, and support for, its participants within the community.

What: Before the ensuing chaos of SXSW, $3 Shows will show some extra love for local musicians with Austin Local Love, featuring two stages of live music and works by local artists and vendors. It’s always an incredible, eye-opening gathering of very talented minds. And it’s a perfect night for musical discovery – before thousands and thousands of SX-goers descend upon our city.

When & where: Doors open early at 5 p.m. tonight at The Swan Dive, 615 Red River. You can make your donation for entry here. Catch performances by III Bones, Casual Strangers (featured on today’s AMM), The Vantage, Empire Machines, Wonderbitch and many more.

Why: All proceeds from the event will benefit the bands. A most worthy cause indeed. Recommended.
