Nolan “Bob” Green started The Grassy Knoll in 1993, and throughout the years, the release of every piece of music, right up to this year’s Electric Verdeland, Vol. 1, has consistently showed the project to be “relentlessly badass.” Critics and fans, including several of Green’s musical peers and collaborators (Shirley Manson, Vernon Reid, Carla Kihlstedt, Thurston Moore), appreciated the groundbreaking virtuosity of his style. It felt like something no one else was achieving at the time, and still does – this dark, edgy mix of sounds from organic and electronic sources that give the music such a timeless feel.
Do not miss The Grassy Knoll tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. The latest word is that Green will be joined by Adam Sultan on guitar and vocals, Garry Franklin on drums, saxophonist Justin Bernard Williams, trumpeter Christopher Forshage, and violinist Brian Batch. Basically, it’s your list of who’s-who in the local scene, a mega-band sure to blow your mind.
The bill includes sets by Petcatman, Rikroshi and On Delay. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 9 p.m. Get there early to see them all. Very recommended.
