Best Songs Ever….9.27.19

KUTX Host Rick McNulty spills the beans on the BEST SONGS EVER! At least for this week.

Jay Som-“Tenderness”
Let’s start with Melina Mae Duterte, better known by her stage name, Jay Som. She’s quite the child prodigy, recording her own songs at the age of 12 in her hometown of L.A. Now she’s all of 25 and writing and producing some seriously mature music. This song, called “Tenderness,” is the realization that nothing is ever good enough and tenderness is all she’s got. She’ll be at the Barracuda tonight.

Highwomen-“Don’t Call Me”
Music Nerd Alert: we have a new supergroup among us. Longtime singer-songwriters Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires have teamed up as the Highwomen. Their songs lean towards humor, some of it obvious, and some much darker. “Don’t Call Me” falls into the former category. The protagonist is so sick of her ex, that no matter what happens to him–his truck catches fire, he has an existential crisis–it doesn’t matter, “whatever you do, don’t call me.”

Marshall Terry-“New Sunday Driver”
Finally, we have some old-fashioned fuzz rock from Austin’s Marshall Terry. He’s stepping out from his former band, Living Beings and making a go at playing most of the instruments himself on “New Sunday Driver.” It’s the kind of music you crank up to 11 – and it’s all analog!
