Marc Ribot, born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1954, is a versatile guitarist who started his career in garage bands and studied under Haitian classical guitarist Frantz Casseus. After moving to New York City in 1978, he played with the Realtones and John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards.
He is known for his work on Tom Waits’ “Rain Dogs” and collaborations with artists like Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Elvis Costello. His discography includes over 25 albums, spanning genres from jazz with “Spiritual Unity” to Cuban son with “Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos” and post-rock with Ceramic Dog.
Ribot’s film score credits include “The Kids Are All Right,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Walk the Line,” “Everything is Illuminated,” and “The Departed.” He has also composed original scores for films and documentaries and performed live guitar scores to Charlie Chaplin’s “The Kid.”
His recent projects include Ceramic Dog’s “HOPE”, a collection of writings titled “Unstrung: Rants & Stories of a Noise Guitarist,” published in 2021, and producing an original score for limited series documentary, “Queen of Meth”, on the Discovery Channel.
