Ethan Azarian is a multi-talented Austin artist who deserves some spotlight. He paints small-scale pieces on canvas, and murals for public and private spaces. The man is also a very skilled folk-americana singer-songwriter and that’s where we’d like to focus our attention. Ethan has been playing music practically his whole life and gigging around Austin both solo-style and with other musicians for over 15 years. His most likely musical companion is Jeff Johnston, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who played with Ethan as part of local band, Orange Mothers in the 80s and 90s. Their music’s been described as “hopelessly original and refreshingly out of touch.” The Austin Chronicle calls it “childishly playful” to some while “movingly poignant” to others. The pair will be playing Cactus Cafe Friday January 24. Doors at 8:00, show at 8:30; 10 dollars general admission. Check out their live performance from Wednesday January 22.
