Marc Ford is arguably best known as lead guitarist for The Black Crowes, but Ford has strived to craft and perfect his own sound after leaving the group in 2006. In addition to a 2003 solo album released during a Crowes hiatus, Ford has released three solo albums since leaving the band. Ford’s been taking the opportunity as a solo artist to dissociate his name and image as a guitar hero and instead explore the limitations of blues and jam rock.
2014’s Holy Ghost is Ford’s latest self definition, one that is distinctly separate from the alcohol and drugs associated with his time in The Black Crowes. Ford’s guitar mastery textured within a roots setting has led some critics to label Holy Ghost as a reinvention of Americana. Ford performed Friday, October 24th at Threadgill’s.
