Jennifer O’Connor is many things: a record label/store owner; a songwriter whose work has appeared on Sons of Anarchy and Orange Is The New Black; and a critically-acclaimed musician who’s recently toured with Neko Case. On March 4, she’s releasing Surface Noise, her first solo album in five years. Solo is the key descriptor: most of these songs started as bare-bones demos, chronicling what O’Connor calls “high highs and low lows.” Those two sides are in “It’s A Lie,” a buzzing, folk-rock gem featuring Yo La Tengo’s James McNew. O’Connor sets her sights on everyday lies, repeating the chorus like a mantra. Download the song below.
