Mayeux & Broussard: “Stoned And Broke Down”

Tate Mayeux and Brian Broussard first teamed up in a metal band, but a Hayes Carll show made Mayeux reach for his country roots again. Growing up in the Hill Country, he soaked up plenty of country music with a cosmic twist. Broussard came from Port Arthur–home to George Jones, Janis Joplin, and Johnny Winter–and as a songwriting pair, the two perfectly reflect their respective Texas upbringings. Their new album–High Times & Good Rhymes, out tomorrow–kicks off with a one-two punch: a lovelorn stoner road tale and a gritty ode to refinery life along the Gulf Coast. We’re opting for the former as today’s song of the day. “Stoned And Broke Down” isn’t quite a tears-in-your-beer sentiment, but then again, Mayeux & Broussard are a different breed of country band.
