Austin’s Molly Burch says singing came to her before songwriting, thanks to growing up surrounded by the sounds of Hollywood musicals, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone. Fittingly, her own songwriting sounds old and romantic, built around swooning arrangements that are nonetheless simple and engaging. She has a 7″ single to her name and on February 17, she’ll release Please Be Mine, her debut album. Burch recorded the LP with KUTX Artist of the Month alumni Cross Record at their studio in Dripping Springs.
Before the album comes out, Burch’s 7″ is a good place to start. The B-side, “I Adore You,” slow-dances its way across nearly six minutes of beautiful folk-pop. The song patiently taps back into Burch’s childhood influences while still showing off her unique voice.
“I Adore You” appears on “Downhearted” b/w “I Adore You.” Molly Burch plays the Barracuda on Saturday, November 26.
