Beginning with her inaugural SXSW in 2018, Austin’s Laura Lee Bishop has become a must-hear performer thanks to her incandescent vocals and ability to blur the boundaries between the retro-pop of Tina Turner and the contemporary flairs of Dua Lipa – all under the stage name Primo the Alien.
It’s been a pretty big year for Primo, who played at Austin City Limits Music Festival in October and was nominated by Black Fret a few months before then. But, never one to call it quits ’til she’s been fully sated, Primo the Alien just touched down with her latest original, “Scared of Love” – a potpourri of pulsating bass, pristine vocals, and glistening synth work that instantly evokes the charm of ’80s pop without sacrificing any digital fidelity.
