Shawn Colvin is a singer and a songwriter. She’s won three Grammys for original songs, but over the years, she’s turned into a masterful interpreter. Colvin has given fresh takes on everything from Talking Heads to Gnarls Barkley, highlighting the lyrical content more than the familiar melodies. Her 1994 album Cover Girl remains a fan favorite, and she’s planning on releasing a sequel of sorts called Uncovered in September. Colvin stopped by Studio 1A recently and told us that there’s a certain magic to re-imagining a well-worn song. She proved that by transforming Tom Waits’ bluesy ballad “Hold On” into something else entirely. Listen to the song below and catch Colvin at the One World Theatre on Saturday, July 25.
