Chairlift Getting off the Ride

Brooklyn synthpop duo Chairlift announced they’re calling it quits (for now) in a letter posted to the group’s Twitter page over the weekend. After the group closes-up shop after a string of shows next spring, Caroline Polachek will be pursuing a solo career and Patrick Wimberly, who co-wrote and produced on Solange’s album A Seat at the Table this year, will be moving towards a career focused exclusively in production. In their decade making and releasing music together, Chairlift released three albums, including this year’s Moth. (SPIN)

New Broadway Musical About Tina Turner

Playwright Katori Hall and “Mamma Mia!” director Phyllida Lloyd are currently in London workshopping a new musical with Tina Turner as the show’s focus. Turner herself is involved in the creative and production facets of the production, which has been in the works for over a year, though no timeline for the show has been announced. The large-scale musical isn’t the first time Tina Turner’s life and career have been portrayed on the stage or silver screen: in 1993 the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It was released about the eight-time Grammy winner starring Angela Bassett in the lead role, and in 2012 a stage musical called Soul Sister was produced in London’s West End.
