Chance the Rapper Donates $1 Million to Chicago Public Schools

Yesterday Chance the Rapper held a press conference at Chicago’s Westcott Elementary School where he announced $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools. The announcement follows days after a meeting between the Grammy winner and Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner that Chance said resulted in nothing but “vague answers” to questions concerning education funding. The donation will be funded by ticket sales from Chance the Rapper’s upcoming tour with extra support from Live Nation, AEG, and other independent promoters. Chance also called for other companies to donate, saying his Social Works nonprofit will donate an additional $10,000 for every $100,000 donated. Michelle Obama tweeted to Chance afterwards, thanking him for his donation and calling him an “example of the power of arts education.”
