Following Alejandro Escovedo’s career is a bit like taking a road trip across the American musical landscape of the past 40 years. His discography covers everything from the raw proto-punk of the 70s to beautifully crafted Americana from the early 2000s. With Alejandro Escovedo’s obvious respect for all types of American music, it’s kind of ironic that his newest and most explicitly “American” record to date, The Crossing, was composed and recorded in the Italian countryside with the help of legendary Italian instrumental group, Don Antonio. Regardless of their musical bonafides, the cross-cultural collaboration with Don Antonio helped Alejandro tackle some of the ugliest aspects of contemporary American culture and relive many of his own struggles as a minority growing up in the music business. Listen to Alejandro and Don Antonio caught live in Studio 1A in the player below and check the links to keep up with their tour!
