Dublin based post-punk band Fontaines D.C. takes as much lyrical inspiration from James Joyce, the famed Irish author, as they do from the ever-changing city around them. Much like Austin, Dublin is undergoing a shift, as big tech companies, and gentrification takes over- the literary hub is starting to lose its magic. All of this can be heard in Fontaines D.C. ‘s gritty, atmospheric debut album Dogrel out via Partisan Records.

They stopped by Studio 1A after arriving in Austin for only their second time as a band to play some songs ahead of their sold-out show at Barracuda with Idles. But when asked if they feel like ambassadors for Dublin itself, they rejected the notion, explaining their only goal is to reflect Dublin as they see it creating an album about their experience in the city rather than “condescending to capturing Dublin exactly as it is.”
