Frankie Rose 9.20.17

Frankie Rose has been to the end of the musical galaxy and back. After 9 years with groundbreaking acts such as Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls, and Crystal Stilts, Rose has become a mainstay of the New York post-punk scene. In 2012, she set her sights for outer space with her solo debut Interstellar. Her third album, Cage Tropical, takes Frankie’s ethereal music and gives it form. With pulsing new wave beats and glimmering synthesizers, this form packs quite a punch. The third track “Trouble” is what’d you’d get if an AI spent years digging through crates of krautrock and Joy Division records. Rose’s experience in the music scene has not resulted in stagnation, but instead a gradual evolution to a more developed retro-futuristic sound–moving forward while always looking back.
