Before spinning off and going solo in 2000, Mike Doughty was best known for fronting the one-of-a-kind avant-garde group Soul Coughing. The group played an odd blend of sounds from rock, hip-hop and electronic music, with Doughty’s beatnik lyrics providing the icing on the cake. Doughty brings some of the same elements into his solo act, though with a little bit more conventional alt rock and pop elements. His career has been marked by his recovery from drug addiction in the early part of his solo career, which he recently recorded in his memoir, The Book of Drugs.
Mike Doughty played live on KUTX from Studio 1a. Be sure to check it out!
