The Bluebonnets 3.31.17

Blues rock is alive and well in Austin thanks to The Bluebonnets. Born out of a previous musical project between guitarist Kathy Valentine and bassist Dominique Davalos while living in L.A., The Bluebonnets uprooted and transplanted themselves to Kathy’s hometown of Austin, TX in 2007. Upon landing in Austin, they recruited one of the city’s best guitar slingers in Eve Monsees and rounded out the band with a call to L.A. resident and all around bad ass percussionist Kristy McInnis. With the core group in place, the band proceeded to reinvigorate the Austin blues scene by turning in incendiary performances in some of Austin’s most storied venues. But Kathy and crew are no slaves to tradition. While planted firmly in the blues rock genre, The Bluebonnets don’t hesitate to throw in shades of T-Rex glam and girl group harmonies for a heady mixture perfectly suited to Austin’s rich musical history. The band took time to join us in Studio 1A to support their new album, Tonewrecker, out on Friday, April 7th. You’ve got a couple of chances to catch The Bluebonnets here in town and we’ve got their performance from KUTX in the player below. Enjoy!
