Cults at KUTX 11.4.13

Indie rock duo Cults (multi-instrumentalist Brian Oblivion and singer/lyricist Madeline Follin) found unexpected fame in 2010 with their viral single “Go Outside” off of their debut self-titled album, and they just released their sophomore album Static. The past couple of years haven’t been without hardship for the pair, who ended a four-year relationship last fall, and lost all of their equipment due to flooding from Hurricane Sandy. The band forged ahead, though, and the new album features the same 60s-style girl-group sound and Follin’s infectious vocals, along with a bit of a moodier and more diverse feel. According to Oblivion, the message of the record is to fight against the idea that your life could be better than it is right now.
