Despite calling her new self-titled album her full-length debut, Brandy Zdan is a veteran musician whose been recording for over 10 years. Zdan is also no stranger to Austin where she played lead guitar and lap steel for the all-girl alt-country group, the Trishas. And before she was with the Trishas she was half of gothic-folk duo Twilight Hotel which was nominated for a Juno (basically Canada’s Grammy’s).
While her self-titled album may not be her first outing, it is certainly a departure from her americana roots. With help from My Morning Jacket members Tom Blankenship (bass) and Carl Broemel (pedal steel), Zdan’s first solo record is a refreshing collection of indie-rock tracks which will leave you excited for her next musical transformation. Brandy Zdan came into studio 1A this week with Daniel Thomas Phipps on bass and Pat Menske on drums. Listen to her Studio 1A session here, or see them live tonight at Radio Coffee.
