A British young woman probably wouldn’t be your first pick to write a song exploring the myriad of meanings and emotions tied up with the word “America”. But that is exactly what 21-year-old Hexham, England native, Jade Bird, has done with the single “Something American” on her debut album bearing the same name. To hear Jade Bird tell it, the subjects in her songs are often searching for their place in society while keeping an eye open for that next best opportunity. Heavy stuff for such a young songwriter, but Jade Bird tackles it with an honesty and self- awareness few artists possess. Catch her recent set in Studio 1A in the player at the bottom of this post!
