It was a combination of super powers that gave BOOHER renewed inspiration.
Go back a bit. Before BOOHER, Michael Booher‘s band Zykos was having its moment shaking things up in Austin’s early ’00s scene. Following that was a stellar solo debut with the Mike McCarthy-produced 2017 LP Funny Tears. But the next four years would prove to be the most challenging for Booher, mentally and creatively, due to tremendous personal losses that nearly led to him abandoning music altogether.
By the fall of 2021, however, a longtime friendship provided much-needed rejuvenation. Songwriter Aaron Sinclair (A. Sinclair, Frank Smith) and Booher have collaborated musically since their high school days in Houston. It was a natural fit for two powerhouse artists. Their writing sessions in Sinclair’s garage gave way to a fresh start with an expanded line-up and an organic blending of styles that’s given BOOHER a broader dynamic.
In classic Michael Booher tongue-in-cheek fashion, the latest from this awesome collab is an absolute banger titled “All Out Of Ideas,” recently featured on the KUTX Song of the Day, embracing bits and pieces of life’s insanity amidst its disintegration, for better or worse. “You never called me crazy / Until baby that was daily and I would not heal at all / But little did I know that it felt so real…”
Two other new singles will be out before the end of this year, with a new album out by next summer. And if the new single is any indication of things to come, you’d better be on top of this. Catch BOOHER’s release show tonight, Saturday Aug. 24, at Chess Club. It’s actually a triple release party featuring Dossey celebrating her new single, “The Hand That Feeds,” and Intercom Heights with their new song “Transmitter.” The evening kicks off at 9 p.m. with a set by Paul Stinson.
