Songs To Learn and Sing

Echo & The Bunnymen dive into much-loved favorites for their 2024 tour.

AMM May 7 2024

Echo & The Bunnymen tonight at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, with the Ryan Davis Trio.

Echo & The Bunnymen‘s 2024 North American tour, Songs To Learn and Sing, has Austin as its very first stop tonight at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater.

The band’s also celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of their most striking releases, Ocean Rain, most of which was recorded in Paris with gorgeous orchestration. So many beautiful and intricately arranged details to discover on every track, though “The Killing Moon” became the hit single – hardly surprising, because it’s poetic perfection on many levels. But leave it to the AMM to feature the album opener, “Silver,” a perfect sweep of guitar and classical strings to start, followed by irresistible alliteration as Ian McCulloch enters with, “Swung from a chandelier / My planet sweet on a silver salver…” Weak in the (nerdy) knees.

Doors for tonight’s show at 6:30 p.m., and, to their surprise but absolute pleasure, the Ryan Davis Trio opens this evening.
