Nané
The Austin duo of Ian Green and Daniel Sahad once used to entertain their friends, but quickly became known to Austinites as Nané. Their packed shows at Stay Gold, the November 2020 debut LP, KUTX Artist of the Month residency, and new single, “Seventeen”, have all led to their debut performance at ACL Fest. Here they share a stripped down performance of “Can’t Get Enough.”

Cautious Clay
Like his music, Cautious Clay [real name: Joshua Karpel] has taken a bit of a kitchen-sink approach to life in his 28 years. A degree in international affairs, work in real estate and advertising, classical training in saxophone and flute (which he whips out here on his ACL video). Hip-hop, r&b and pop all boil down to make his music career, which took off when his debut single “Cold War” garnered over a million streams. Still unsigned, Clay released his debut album, “Deadpan Love“, this summer, and is mulling his options while planning a major American tour in 2022. He attributes his success to -no lie – his mom, and her eclectic tastes and wide-ranging record collection.

Gina Chavez
A fixture of the Austin scene since 2004, the queer Latinx bilingual folk-rocker Gina Chavez has garnered multiple Austin Music Awards, Grammy nominations, appeared on NPR and on Austin City Limits. Her music is infused with pride and empowerment, and her music is incessantly searching. Her latest album, 2020’s bold La Que Manda, is her first recording entirely in Spanish. Weekend one of ACL saw Chavez perform a headlining slot at the BMI stage and at the Women’s March at the Capitol so it was apt that she shares an acoustic version of her feminist anthem “She Persisted”.

Claud
22-year-old Claud Mintz was once part of the duo Toast, until a 2019 solo release, “Wish You Were Gay,” brought the bedroom-pop singer to the attention of Phoebe Bridgers. Signed to her label, the February release Super Monster, packed with tales of alienation and navel-gazing, has caught fire with Claud’s fanbase. Claud stopped by our tent backstage at the 2021 ACL Music Festival to perform a stripped down version “Soft Spot” for our cameras.

Zach Person
Guitar-shredding blues/rock prodigy Zach Person has established himself as a major draw in the Austin scene, and his eponymous 2021 album has added to his ever-expanding fanbase. Person and his collaborator/drummer Jake Wyble strip it back to acoustic guitar and shaker and perform “Crossroads” backstage at ACL Fest 2021.

Calder Allen
The grandson of sculptor and singer-songwriter Terry Allen, ACL Fest 2021 marked the first band performance for Calder Allen who learned how to play the guitar during the pandemic to put his poems to music.
