Nané 12.7.21

Michael Minasi

If there is a single defining characteristic of our 2021 Artists of the Month it’s that none are easily pigeonholed into any specific genre. This is certainly the case for our first featured artist of 2021. On their self-titled debut album, released November 2020, Nané singer Daniel Sahad and guitarist Ian Green distill years of college jam sessions and a lifelong passion for funk and R&B into a deeply groovy collection of songs that float somewhere between Prince’s seductive rock and Red Hot Chili Peppers soulful punk. A seemingly incongruous but impossibly infectious sound made possible by producer and well-known musical chameleon John Speice IV, drummer and producer for some of Austin’s most influential groups including Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, and Money Chicha.

Unable to host Nané in January due to pandemic restrictions, we jumped at the chance to invite the whole band to perform in Studio 1A for a small audience of KUTX members. True to reputation, Daniel Sahad and band tore through a three-song set including the new single, “Seventeen.”
