10 Years, and Here’s To More

From the murky shadows of various shifty short-lived clubs at the corner of Red River and E. 10th rose a a newly-renovated and rejuvenated night spot with killer potential. That was ten years ago, when the Mohawk was the newbie on the block. Then…holy crap, that newbie blew up into something pretty tremendous.

The Mohawk has hosted a multitude of badass live music performances and special events too numerous to count. A lot of craziness has blasted through those doors and crowded round the stages, wall to wall, but the Mohawk’s motto is steadfast: All Are Welcome, from the bushiest of beards to killer queso cooks, riot grrrls and wonder women, raucous rappers and pumped-up headbangers, stage divers and wall climbers, and the endless chorus of fans singing along at the tops of their voices.

There’s a 10th anniversary celebration going down at the Mohawk with several awesome shows lined up tonight through Sept. 17th, featuring The Get Up Kids (who play tonight on the outdoor stage), GZA, Roky Erickson, Swans, Dan Deacon, Floating Points, The Octopus Project and many others. Head over to the Mohawk website for the full anniversary schedule.

Happy Anniversary, Mohawk, from your Austin Music Minute hostess with the mostess. Here’s to many more to come.
