Austin-based filmmaker and director Keith Maitland, creator of the astounding and insightful documentary Tower (2016), about the University of Texas Tower mass shooting incident in 1966, is screening another very impressive documentary he’s made about a longstanding and much-beloved musical institution in the Live Music Capital and throughout the world.
A Song For You: The Austin City Limits Story features a number of performances, interviews and behind-the-scenes glimpses into ACL‘s formation and rise to popularity. Full disclosure: Your humble Austin Music Minute host has seen the documentary (in Toronto, with the Project ATX6 crew) and it must be noted, you might recognize someone from KUTX appearing near the end of the film. Just sayin’.
Onward to tonight’s screening of A Song For You, happening at 7 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse Mueller, 1911 Aldrich St., Suite 120. Following the screening, be sure to head over to Barrel O’ Fun, located inside the Drafthouse, for a free performance by Lord Buffalo, whose music is prominently featured in Maitland’s Tower.
This is all worth checking out. Recommended.
