Not In the Face was already rattling eardrums and firing up crowds when they started out as a duo, getting attention from fans and music reviewers alike with their debut full-length Bikini. But oh, the irony. Songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Terrell and drummer Wes Cargall didn’t even set out with serious intentions of starting a band. Who knew that something that originated as a joke would morph into some full-on, show-no-mercy rock ‘n’ roll?
Now the band is four-members’ strong with the addition of guitarist Michael Anthony Gibson and bassist Ross Dubois. And just on the heels of their 2012 EP Walk, a new self-titled EP emerges, recorded in Vancouver, BC by executive producer Bob Ezrin, known for his work with rock giants like Pink Floyd, KISS and Alice Cooper, and producer GGGarth (yeah, three G’s, pal) Richardson, known for having bands like Rage Against the Machine, The Jesus Lizard and The Melvins on his roster. Plenty to brag about here.
You’ll have your chance to get the new EP at Not In the Face’s “Sweet Release” show Friday night at Holy Mountain, 617 E. 7th St. It’s a rock feast all around with The Happen-Ins and Houston band We Were Wolves. Doors open at 9 p.m. And remember: Don’t leave the earplugs at home. Very recommended.
