KUTX’s Austin Music Minute is all about the musical discovery, especially when it comes to local artists, and to the myriad of resources – indie labels, music blogs, online mags – that get listeners connected to such discoveries. Communion Music is one such organization that goes beyond the role of music label to champion live performances, recording opportunities, publishing, and the growth and support of music communities.
Formed in London in 2006 by musicians Ben Lovett (Mumford & Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and producer Ian Grimble, the UK group has since branched out to curate a series of monthly residencies in cities across the UK, the U.S. and Australia. Austin happens to be one of the primary hot spots for all manner of awesome music artists, of course. And that includes a special Communion Music residency going down tonight at the Historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. at Navasota. Communion Music puts the spotlight on BUHU (featured on today’s AMM), Los Coast, Austin Basham, and Houston-based artist Kay Weathers.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Get there early to see all the performances. Recommended.
