It’s insanity. And your Austin Music Minute maven loves it. Here are a handful of AMM selections to check out at Austin City Limits Music Festival, as well as the line-up for fest alternative, the nitty gritty Saustex Records-borne Austin Corn Lovers Fiesta. It’s good to mix it up, yo:
-The ACL heavy-hitters? Come on. Later this evening, it’s the beleaguered and bewildering “Mr. Tillman” himself, Father John Misty (6:45 p.m. Barton Springs Stage); Seattle-based electronic-epic duo ODESZA (7:35 p.m. Honda Stage); and…oh yeah. This guy (7:45 p.m. American Express Stage).
-Some official ACL Fest Late Night shows include St. Vincent at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, 801 Red River; Japanese Breakfast (featured on today’s AMM) and Molly Burch at Antone’s, 305 E. 5th St., and The Wombats and Yungblud at Emo’s, 2015 E. Riverside Dr.
-Also kicking off tonight, the glorious dementia and depravity that is the Austin Corn Lover’s Fiesta. The first night tonight at Empire Control Room, 611 E. 7th St., features Denton alt.-country rock beasts Slobberbone; the rants, raves and cataclysmic waves of Hammell On Trial; a band I love but can’t talk about on the air, CUNTO!; everybody’s sweethearts who wanna make out with you behind the bleachers – as long as you bring the whiskey and explosives, the Hickoids; and Australian country/blues/swamp guy, ol’ 8 Ball Aitken. Doors at 8 p.m.
So much music for you this weekend, you won’t be able to keep up. Go for it. More selections from the AMM coming your way soon.
