Across the Country

It’s a bit staggering to see how far Anthony da Costa has come in such a short period of time. The 23-year-old songwriter from Pleasantville, NY made his way to Austin about a year ago to continue his music-making, but this is an artist who’s far from being a beginner.

Da Costa’s been writing songs since the age of 10, and was the 2007 recipient of a Kerrville Folk Festival songwriting competition at 16. Altogether, he’s released seven albums and three EPs, and has traveled worldwide to open shows for Loretta Lynn, Suzanne Vega, Judy Collins, Dan Bern and several other luminaries.

Da Costa is completing his next full-length release, with producer  and singer/songwriter/guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan. But you may just get a preview of the new music to come when you see da Costa perform tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. It’s a lovely bill with Molly Burch, and Paul Banks‘ band SUPERMOON. Get there by 9 p.m. to see all three. Recommended.
