Columbus, OH folk quartet Saintseneca built its reputation through their massive live performances, as any multi-talented DIY outfit would. From house parties to intimate non-traditional venues, they created their distinctive style from the ground up and maintained a close connection with the local punk scene, and the band is all the richer for it. So, it’s a natural evolution to make something as gritty, multi-textured and impressive as their second album, Dark Arc, released earlier this month on the ANTI- label.
What began as a minimalist approach for Saintseneca has naturally flowed into something slightly more complex and fuller in sound, without forcing it into something that feels as though it’s changed in a hurry overnight. There are still strong roots in acoustic instrumentation and harmonies, but crafted together with heavier bass, guitar and synths, all gelling harmoniously.
You’ve got to check them out live. See Saintseneca tonight at Lambert’s, 401 W. 2nd St., with Wisconsin-based duo Blessed Feathers and local songwriter Greg Mullen.
This is gonna be good. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Very recommended.
