Gloriously larger than life. Lord Friday the 13th revels in the joy of not giving a damn.
Full disclosure: Though it’s fairly obvious if you’ve been following the AMM for awhile, your AMM host has been a fan of trash-glam punks Lord Friday the 13th since they first started freaking out the locals in 2019. But imagine the extra exhilaration you feel when legendary musical badasses chime in with their own compliments and observations about your personal faves. It was a HUGE deal to hear John Doe of X give his take on seeing Lord Friday play.
“They didn’t give two sh*ts about anything,” Doe said after a Lord Friday set. “They didn’t care if they would be played on the radio. All they wanted to do was go out there and do their thing and have a good time and let the audience have a good time. That’s what the LA punk rock scene was about. People ask, ‘What is punk rock about?’ It’s about freedom. It’s about not giving a sh*t. It’s not about being self-righteous!”
The legend has spoken.
Perhaps you’re a badass because you’re catching the big show tonight at Stubb’s, with two pioneering punk bands that influenced so many others after them, Descendents and Circle Jerks. If so, stick around for the afterparty with Lord Friday the 13th on Stubb’s inside stage, immediately following the show. Doors for Lord Friday at 10:30 p.m.
